San Manuel Cares Grant will Improve Access to Women’s Health Services in Riverside.

San Manuel Cares Grant will Improve Access to Women’s Health Services in Riverside.

Neighborhood Healthcare (Neighborhood) has received an $11,000 grant from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians to enhance cancer screening services in Riverside County.

Improving Access to Cancer Screenings

Regular cancer screenings are crucial for early detection and improved treatment outcomes. In Riverside County, where access to healthcare can be challenging for some communities, this grant addresses a vital need. Neighborhood Healthcare will organize Pap clinics and mobile mammogram events through this funding at its Riverside Health Centers. By August 2025, we anticipate 535 women will benefit, with at least 175 completing PAP screenings at eight clinics and 225 receiving mammograms at eight mobile events, all supported by this investment.

Empowering Women to Prioritize Their Health

Elena Chavarria, Director of the Women’s Health Program at Neighborhood Healthcare, stresses the importance of women focusing on their health despite the demands of daily life. “Many women, especially those balancing work and family, often neglect their health needs,” Chavarria said. “However, by providing more accessible screening options, we are helping women take the necessary steps to care for themselves and, as a result, for their loved ones.” By increasing access to these essential screenings, the initiative aims to detect cancer at earlier, more treatable stages, reduce healthcare disparities in the community, and promote overall women’s health awareness and education.

The Tribe’s support will broaden access and remove barriers to care for women due for PAP or Mammogram screenings, thus ensuring happier, healthier outcomes.
