Urgent Need for Substance Use Treatment Among San Diego’s Unhoused Population

Addressing the crisis of unhoused individuals in San Diego requires compassionate, comprehensive solutions, especially for those battling substance use disorders. The opioid crisis, fueled by fentanyl and other substances like it, has severely impacted this vulnerable population, yet access to treatment remains limited. San Diego County, with over 3 million residents, has only 78 detox beds, none dedicated to the unhoused. This lack of resources leaves many without the help they need when they’re ready to seek treatment, increasing the risk of overdose and death.

At Neighborhood Healthcare, we recognize the urgent need for accessible substance use treatment as part of a holistic approach to ending homelessness. We are committed to expanding our services to include more detox and recovery options, ensuring that everyone in our community has the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Join us in supporting this critical work and helping our neighbors overcome addiction and find a path to stability. Your support can make a life-saving difference.
